News › Upgrade of a Texecom Alarm System
We were recently called to a property where the customer was having constant problems with their alarm system. The alarm would regularly lose connection to devices, causing faults and frustration.
The system was a Texecom part wired/part wireless alarm using Ricochet technology, which is designed to allow devices to pass signals between each other. While this works well in many properties, it’s not a miracle solution. If the control panel is installed in the wrong place, communication problems can still occur.
In this case, the control panel had been installed at one end of a large L-shaped building. Devices at the opposite end struggled to maintain a reliable connection, resulting in repeated faults with the system and the app connectivity.
It wasnt just a simple case of just moving the existing control panel. The existing system was a large installation with some wired components. Relocating the panel would have meant extensive rewiring of the control panel and other components of the system. Sometimes repairing or modifying an older system can cost almost as much as replacing it, without giving you the same level of reliability
The customer chose to upgrade the whole system to a Pyronix wireless alarm instead. The key improvement wasn’t just changing the equipment, it was relocating the control panel to the centre of the building. This gave every wireless detector a much stronger and more reliable signal. The customer also benefited from a dependable phone app signal.
The lesson? Even the best wireless alarm system can perform poorly if it’s not designed and installed correctly. Choosing the right equipment is important (and the right company), but installing it in the right location is what makes it reliable.
